Sydney - Medal of Australia

Living in Sydney, I saw a widely publicides 'Medal of Australia' - which I think was awarded by one of the mainstream newspapers. The ideas was, you could write in nominating an unsung everyday hero.

Honours help define, encourage and reinforce national aspirations, ideals and standards by identifying role models. We give honours to recognise, celebrate and say thank you to those who make a difference, those who achieve their best and those who serve others.

I'm sure London has a version of this, but does anyone have any links?
